LAPD's major recover stolen Nike merchandise and sneakers from a famous sneaker resale store

In a significant development addressing supply chain theft, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has announced a substantial recovery of stolen goods, particularly Nike merchandise valued at approximately $5 million. This operation marks a crucial victory in combating cargo thefts within the city.

Surge in supply chain theft throughout the years

The year 2023 saw a concerning rise in supply chain theft incidents, notably affecting high-value items like sneakers. CargoNet reports revealed a staggering 63% increase in such crimes compared to the previous year. Notable incidents included thefts from cargo trains in Los Angeles, a $400,000 heist in Memphis, and the seizure of $7 million worth of stolen goods in LA.

LAPD's coordinated operation to recover the stolen goods

On January 27, 2024, LAPD's Commercial Crimes Division’s Cargo Theft Unit, Major Theft Task Force, and the Organized Retail Crimes Task Force collaborated to execute search warrants in Hollywood and the City of Hawthorne, California. These raids targeted a warehouse in Hawthorne, identified as a pivotal location associated with the delivery of stolen Nike products.

Recovery and arrest of suspects in this ongoing investigation

Supported by Nike’s Global Security Director and supply chain investigators, the operation successfully recovered thousands of pairs of Nike shoes, clothing, and accessories with an estimated total value of $5 million. The investigation led to the arrest of 37-year-old Roy Lee Harvey Jr., suspected of playing a central role in receiving, redistributing, and reselling stolen property. Harvey faces charges of receiving stolen property.

Images released by the LAPD depict the extensive scope of the operation, showcasing a vast array of Nike boxes, including rare pairs like the Nike Air Foamposite Paranorman. Notably, shelving bearing Project Blitz's branding, a renowned resale shop catering to high-profile clientele like Drake, was also observed. While it's unconfirmed whether Project Blitz is involved in this case, further details from the ongoing investigation are expected in the coming weeks.
