Donda Academy Sued by Two Former Teachers
Kanye West’s Donda Academy is facing a lawsuit from two former employees, Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers, who claim they were fired in retaliation for reporting code violations. The two women, who were reportedly the only Black female teachers at the school, say they were hired as full-time teachers in January and fired about two months later after expressing concerns over “unlawful and unsafe practices.”
The lawsuit alleges that Donda Academy was not following state regulations and lacked a nurse, janitorial services, security precautions, and a “proper disciplinary system.” The plaintiffs also claim that the school implemented a ban on various activities and items, including crossword puzzles, coloring sheets, wall art, lunch forks, and jewelry. Additionally, teachers were locked in from the outside throughout the day, students were prohibited from going outdoors, and classes were not held on the second floor because Kanye was reportedly afraid of stairs. The lawsuit seeks damages related to emotional distress, unpaid wages, loss of earnings, and deferred compensation.
Whether or not the claims are true, more witness testimonies are likely to come out to reveal further details on the situation. In order to keep up with the latest news follow @Swiftsole and make sure to download our App.
